Some Xenos Rampant Units

It's been a long time since I posted anything. Time to update some of the many projects. Some started, some even progressed. Not sure any are completed.

Lee and I started playing Xenos Rampant earlier this year. Initially I was a little skeptical. It didn't feel like it would work, but I wanted to give it a try because of its simplicity.  After a few attempts I think we have worked it out and find it quite fun.

This first post on the subject contains some of the unit data for the alien forces.

Node Beast (3 pts): primitive infantry (1), fanatical discipline(2).  Strength 5 (SMU). This is the cheapest form of leader unit.

The other leader model I use for now is a xenos “prime” armed with a whip, sword and rending talons (4 pts): heavy infantry (2), assault doctrine (2), high powered blades (1),  unarmed (-1)

Ripping Swarm (1 pt): primitive infantry (1), mob (2), mobile(1), savages (-1), unstable (-1). Strength 15. These are rather mindless and unpredictable snake-like beasts. Useful to use up odd spare points and create a distraction.

Neuro Swarm (2 pts): primitive infantry (1), hive mind (1), increased squad size (1), young warriors (-1). Strength 10. This is the smallest form of actual hive controlled beast.

Xenos Infantry  (3 pts): light infantry (1), increased squad size (2), undisciplined (-1), hive mind (1)/ Strength 10. These are the basic line infantry armed with the equivalent of rifles (bug guns). There are two possible variations:

Bug Shotguns (3 pts): as above plus armour piercing (1), close quarters doctrine (-1).

Spine Pistols (4 pts): as above plus close quarters doctrine (-1), heavy/ multiple weapons  (2).

Xenos Berserkers (4 pts): berserk infantry (2), increased squad size (1), mobile (1), unarmed (-1), hive mind (1). Strength 10. The troops charge into battle with long scything claws.

Stealers (6 pts): berserk infantry (2), high powered blades (1), increased squad size (1),  mobile (1), unarmed (-1), infiltrators (1), ponderous (1). These troops infiltrate the battlefield and launch their attacks from the shadows. They are one of the few units without the “hive mind” feature.

Xenos Warriors (7 pts): heavy infantry (2), heavy weapons (2), hive mind (1), mono-molecular blades (2). Strength 5. This units is armed with heavier “spitting death” rifles, and long scything claws.

Variations include:

replace “spitting death” rifle with bug shotgun: close quarters doctrine (-1), area effect (+1).

replace scything claws with rending talons: replace mono-molecular blades (2) with high powered blades (1).

replace scything claws with chitin sword and whip: (drop mono-molecular blade (2).

replace spitting death with a second set of scything claws: drop heavy weapons (2), add assault doctrine (2), unarmed (-1).

I'll post some more in the future.
